Oregon House Did Our Troops Right
By Passing the “Bring Them Home Act of 2007”
Clackamas, OR – BELIEVERS AGAINST THE WAR applauds the Oregon House for sending their message of real support to the troops with House Joint Memorial 9 which calls on President Bush and Congress to withdraw troops from Iraq. While we believe our troops could be out of Iraq within as little as three months, and HJM9 calls for a withdrawal by the first quarter of 2008, this is certainly better than the open-ended quagmire the President and our Congress have drawn us into.
David Brownlow, Ex. Director of BELIEVERS AGAINST THE WAR said, “It is unconscionable that we have left 160,000 of our finest men and women stranded in the middle of a civil war. Please, support my troop and the rest of his buddies - bring them home NOW!
Brownlow continued, “What our troops need is an actual mission to ‘support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, as every military officer has sworn an oath to do. The Republicans who voted against HJM 9 fail to see the hypocrisy of their support for this illegal occupation, when Iraq never posed a threat to our Constitution.”
BELIEVERS AGAINST THE WAR believes that the killing of innocents is contrary to the teachings of Jesus. This is also contrary to the opinion of the majority of evangelical Christians as revealed in this Christianity Today poll, which shows that 60% oppose U.S. involvement in Iraq.
BELIEVERS AGAINST THE WAR specifically commends the three Republican House Representatives who voted for HJM9 – Rep. Vickie Berger, Rep. Brian Boquist, and Rep. John Lim. These representatives put principle before party, and have judged the war in Iraq in the light of the Bible and the Constitution - both of which prohibit unprovoked aggression. BELIEVERS AGAINST THE WAR urges the Republican Senators now to do the same as HJM9 now travels to the Senate.
“Support the troops – Bring Them Home!”
